STD Symptoms
Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) come in many different forms, some more noticeable or more painful than others. The following is a brief summary of the symptoms of three relatively common STDs to be aware of. It is important if you think you may have picked up an STD to go to your doctor straight away and tell him your STD symptoms. This can be embarrassing, but is far better than leaving a condition untreated.
Gonorrhea
The common STD symptoms for gonorrhea are genital discharge (possibly containing blood) and a burning sensation during urination. Many men, however, may experience no symptoms at all. Although gonorrhea can be treated, it is easily picked up again, especially if only one person in a relationship is treated.
Syphilis
This disease displays symptoms in four stages, primary, secondary, latent and tertiary. During the first stage, for about 10 days after exposure, painless sores develop that will clear up if left alone. In the second stage a rash will develop and this too will heal on its own. During the first two stages syphilis is contagious and can be spread easily. During the last two stages, the bacteria will damage vital organs and can cause paralysis and ultimately death.
Chlamydia
Unfortunately, most of the people who get Chlamydia will not display any STD symptoms. Possible symptoms include genital discharge, a burning sensation when urinating and pain in the testicles. If left untreated it can cause skin lesions, abdominal pain and in women can cause PID (Pelvic Inflammatory Disease).
Remember, prevention is always better than cure. If you are unsure, use a condom!
