AIDS from Kissing or Touching
Before you panic it is important to note that you cannot catch HIV or AIDS form kissing or touching. Although a person with HIV or AIDS is technically contagious, you can only become infected from them if you come into contact with their bodily fluids in substantial amounts and this does not include saliva. HIV has found to be not present in a person’s saliva which makes it perfectly safe for you to kiss a person who is HIV positive without fear of contracting the virus.
You should also be aware that you cannot catch AIDS from anyone. Although you may be able to catch HIV by having unprotected sex or oral sex with someone who is HIV positive you cannot catch AIDS. AIDS is developed by someone who has caught HIV previously and usually takes a long period of time to come into affect. Someone who has contracted HIV will not necessarily develop AIDS in their lifetime. It is usually defined by someone having a CD4 count below 200 or developing one or more opportunistic infections.
You cannot catch HIV or AIDS from kissing or touching anyone who is HIV positive or someone who has AIDS. The only way to catch HIV is to be in contact with vaginal fluid, sperm fluid, blood or breast milk and not by touch, saliva or general kissing unless it is the kissing of genital areas or open wounds. You can easily prevent HIV infection by practicing safe sex by using condoms for contraceptives.
